Hyrule – The latest cover of Game Preview Monthly has the kingdom abuzz. Zelda is being hailed as a champion for game heroines for her decision to not use graphical enhancements on her image.
Nintendo is producing dual versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Zelda could have used the enhanced Switch version of herself, but instead, she chose the untouched Wii U version.
GPM writer Wendy French calls it a bold move.
“Female game characters are expected to portray themselves unrealistically with boosted pixel counts and oversaturated lighting effects. What does that do to the psyche of 16-bit characters who can never compete with HD expectations? Zelda is overthrowing that cycle of sexism.”
The RPG heroine has not responded to requests for comments, but she did tweet, “700 resolution is who I am, and I am #Proud of it.”
