Tokyo – Fans of Japan’s most prolific animation director, Hayao Miyazaki, were delightfully shocked to hear he was coming out of retirement for one more film. New details about the project have been released by Studio Ghibli, and they are more surprising still.
Miyazaki’s next, and final, movie will be not be another animated masterpiece. Instead, he is opting for an original live-action romantic comedy. Most shocking of all: Hayao Miyazaki will be starring in the lead role opposite Emma Watson.
“I have wanted to work with Miss Watson for a long time,” Miyazaki said through an interpreter. “She is very talented and so beautiful, so, so beautiful. I cannot tell you anything about the movie except that there will be lots and lots of kissing in the script. We will do so much kissing.”
“I came out of retirement because I realized I cannot miss an opportunity like this.”
We reached out to Emma Watson for comments on the project, but she is currently occupied with promotional work for her new film, Beauty and the Beast.
